Old Speech Room Gallery

   Vote
The Old Speech Room was built in 1819-21 as a chamber in which to encourage public speaking. The Gallery was constructed in 1976 to house the School's superb collections.

Apart from the permanent collections of fine art and Egyptian and Greek antiquities, there is a rolling programme of temporary exhibitions. Recent exhibitions have included Aspects of Albion, an exhibition of English scenes from the School's pre-eminent watercolour collection, and About Turn, a loan exhibition of twenty-four art medals from the British Art Medal Society. This term's exhibition - Second Definition - focuses on personal mementoes belonging to school staff - and the stories which make these objects so significant. In the autumn the 'Cloudscapes' exhibition will compare new photography with a selection of some of our best 19th-century watercolours - our Geographers will be assisting the curatorial team for the first time.
